Susan attended a womans' retreat in the spring of 2007. Sara Trollinger, founder of the National House of Hope in Orlando, Florida, spoke. A recovering teen from her program shared her experiences and the positive difference that the House of Hope had made in her life. At that moment, Susan answered God's call and decided to establish a House of Hope in Sacramento.
Susan has held several prestigious sales and marketing positions and has been called upon for various speaking engagements. She is currently employed by Esurance as Claims Manager. Susan is the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the church she attends. She has also served as the Missions Team Chairperson for the past three years.
Serving God and listening to Him as He directs her path is extremely important to Susan. She receives her strength, guidance, and power to continue from the presence of the Holy Spirit within her.
Twenty-two years ago Sara Trollinger, a former schoolteacher, was led by the Lord to establish a faith-based ministry, House of Hope in
Orlando,
FL. This ministry is a residential program where hurting, troubled teens can learn to accept responsibility, submit to authority, and get along with peers and adults. The emphasis in this Christ-centered environment is on healing and restoring teens and their families
Sara started House of Hope in 1985 with five people praying and $200. Today, House of Hope Orlando has changed the lives of hundreds of young people, their families, and countless friends. In 2001, Sara founded National House of Hope, which is the catalyst for developing Houses of Hope across
America and internationally. House of Hope Orlando serves as the National model after which other Houses of Hope pattern.
NHOH's headquarters and training seminar site is located in the newly built
Educational
Art
Center on House of Hope Orlando's ten-acre campus. The campus is debt-free and consists of five teen residences, a chapel, a gymnasium, administrative and counseling offices in the
Life
Center, a cafe, a staff house, the Ministry house and apartments for visitors, interns, and those on campus for Job Shadowing. The
Educational
Arts
Center houses the school,
Hope
Academy, an art room, a library, and Ryan's Rec Room for the teens.
Graduating with a Bachelors Degree from the
University of
North Carolina and obtaining a Masters Degree from the
University of
South Florida, Sara taught for 25 years in
Orlando,
FL. For 15 of those years, she taught emotionally handicapped youth. Teaching became the catalyst for Sara's vision to start House of Hope.
Sara is the author of 12 books, the most familiar of which is Unglued and Tattooed. She is the recipient of the Humanitarian Award for the National Religious Alliance Against Pornography, the recipient of the Florida Family Council Family Champion Award and has received the Paul Harris Award from Rotary International.
